Taking time to organize your home not only reduces stress, but also increases leisure time and can even save money. Here are some of our favourite tips.
Kitchen counter clutter buster
Take the clutter off the counter with an ingenious installation of a mailbox on the side of the kitchen island. It’s a great place to keep menus, notepads, or incoming mail.
Make your pantry productive with a Sharpie & save money
An organized pantry makes meal planning a snap, and labeling goods with the expiry date ensures that you don’t throw hard earned money in the
garbage by not using food by the sell-by date. Sure, there are loads of fancy labels and containers that will make the pantry look like a magazine shoot, but if you have a Sharpie you’re in business.
The easiest and cheapest way to organize the pantry is to use a Sharpie to write the Best By date on the front of each item where it can be seen at a glance, and put the items soonest to expire at the front of the shelf. Arrange goods by type and category, with infrequently used items on the higher shelves.
When bringing new groceries home, have the Sharpie at hand and write the Best By date before putting anything away. It will add a few minutes to the process, but it will be well worth the effort..
Clear out and clean up
How much of your stuff is just taking up space because you can’t bear to throw it away? Sort it into 3 piles – Sell, Donate/Give Away, and Trash. Sell the items that you will never use, donate clothes to charity and old towels and blankets to an animal rescue, and throw out the ugly, damaged and useless. Tip – Sell your unwanted things online or give them away on Freecycle.
Take it one small section at a time and you’ll soon be free of the clutter monster.
